Around 25,000 homes in Queensland's southeast found themselves experiencing outages on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the state, bringing powerful gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Hailstones and Extensive Impact

Homeowners reported substantial frozen pellets measuring up to 7 centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that different parts across Queensland had been affected by large hailstones.

Response teams were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews working to address the widespread outages.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, around one thousand residents in Victoria also faced energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its wettest day in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to over five hundred requests for assistance across the area, mostly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

At one point on yesterday, in excess of 28,000 power users in the state were experiencing outages.

Moist weather were expected to linger along significant areas of eastern Queensland this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing thunderstorm potential expected across various areas of both regions.

Safety Concern

Public health experts cautioned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
